Plan 1: The Sun – Our Star
Introduce the Sun as the largest object in our solar system. Students will explore its shape, layers (from core to corona), and understand its crucial role in sustaining life by providing light and warmth.
Plan 2: Day and Night – The Earth’s Rotation
Students will grasp how the Earth’s rotation causes day and night, while also identifying the directions of sunrise and sunset. A simple introduction to orientation with East and West supports early map skills.
Plan 3: Demonstrating Earth’s Rotation
Build deeper understanding through cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Students will demonstrate Earth’s rotation using a globe and a lamp to visualize changing times of day.
Plan 4: The Sun as a Timekeeper
Explore ancient time-telling methods. Students will learn how the position of the Sun can be used to tell time, examine how sundials work, and understand their limitations.
Plan 5: Cardinal Directions – Introduction
Students will be introduced to the four cardinal directions and learn how to use them to locate and orient themselves in space—laying the foundation for basic map-reading skills.
Plan 6: Using a Compass Rose
Apply map skills by identifying and labeling cardinal directions on a compass rose. Students will learn to determine direction between locations, enhancing both spatial awareness and navigation skills.
