Phonics Week 10 – “People Who Help Us: Teachers and School Staff” is designed to develop early listening and phonics skills through fun, theme-based learning experiences. The sessions focus on environmental and voice sounds, sound discrimination, syllable awareness, and initial sound recognition—all embedded within the context of people who help us daily, such as teachers, caretakers, and cooks.
The large group sessions feature engaging activities such as:
-
“Guess Who?” for breaking names into syllables using safe movements,
-
“Lollipop Person” using voice sounds to imitate vehicles and understand stop/go cues,
-
“Sound Walk” to sharpen environmental listening skills,
-
“The Caretaker’s Busy Day” to chant and act out a caretaker’s duties,
-
“Uncle Yousuf Needs a Rest”, encouraging children to produce and explore expressive voice sounds.
The small group sessions in Week 10 provide focused, interactive opportunities for children to explore environmental and speech sounds through real-life contexts involving school staff and community helpers. Each activity builds specific phonological skills in an engaging, age-appropriate manner.
